Water Tank Level Sensor

KNX Water Level Sensor -Overview

A KNX water level sensor is a device designed to measure and monitor water level. Water level sensors used in applications such as tanks, reservoirs and bodies of water. It integrates with a KNX home or building automation system to provide real-time data. It enable automated control and notifications based on water level changes.

KNX water level sensors are valuable components in building and home automation systems. Because they enhance water management, reduce water wastage, and contribute to overall system efficiency. Integration within the KNX network allows for seamless communication. With this automation water resources are used effectively and responsibly.

The Ultrasonic Probe is used for measurement of the fill level of liquids in tanks or for distance measurement. In addition to application areas like rainwater cisterns or fuel tanks, also e. g. fish ponds or wells or the parking distance of trucks can be monitored.

Sensing Technology : KNX water level sensors typically use various technologies to measure water level, such as ultrasonic, pressure or float sensors. They constantly monitor water levels and send status updates to the KNX system.

Measurement : The sensor reports water level information in the form of data points or group addresses on the KNX network. This data can be accessed and used to trigger automation scenarios, alarms or notifications.

Trigger Actions : In a KNX automation system, water level data can be used to trigger actions or reactions. For example, if a tank is running low on water, the system can automatically start a pump to refill it or send a notification asking you to take action.

Energy efficiency: KNX water level sensors can contribute to energy efficiency by ensuring optimal use of water resources. For example, in irrigation systems, a sensor can prevent overwatering by monitoring soil moisture.

Integration with other sensors: Water level sensors can be integrated with other sensors and devices on the KNX network, creating complex automation scenarios. For example, a pool water level sensor can work with temperature sensors to control heating and filtration systems.

User Interface: KNX system can provide a user-friendly interface to monitor and control the water level. Users can check the water level remotely using an app on their smartphone or on touch panels in the building.

If you collect the rainwater in a water container or tank and your building is already automated via a KNX system, the filling quantity of the container can be easily recorded. How does it work? The KNX tank probe consists of an ultrasonic sensor and a smart evaluation unit that can calculate the fill levels of containers of rainwater storage tanks. This enables not only the residual quantity display in tanks, but also, for example, a water level warning in wells.

You can also defined quantity in the rainwater tank is exceeded or not reached, an acoustic warning signal sounds at the tank probe. The automatic filling or emptying of the tank can now be started via the KNX system if the corresponding valves and pumps are installed.

This way you always have an overview of the current filling quantity and avoid overflow if the water level is too high and if it is too low for pumps to be idle.

STEP 1:

Identify the Under Ground & Over Head Tank size.

STEP 2:

Run the KNX cable near to tanks. You may also require power if you wan to enable some buzzer /hooter for tank limits if you want.

STEP 3:

KNX Water Tank Level Sensor

Install KNX Ultrasonic Probe over the Tank.

Take 40mm diameter Pipe and put a hole in tank. Now, insert the pipe inside the tank with some gape at the bottom, so water can be easily get in the pipe.

Now top side of pipe will be fitted with KNX Ultrasonic sensor prob. Have some hole on the pipe near top side for some AIR to pass as water level changes.

Take sensor cable (Usually supplied with the package) to the  nearest location where main unit is installed.

STEP 4:

Configure the device parameters with KNX ETS Application.

STEP 5:

Now You can use parameters value to display on dashboard.

Done!!!!
